Sharing plant power

Plants are the first medicines – and are still available to everyone. Here are tools we can all use.

These pages are a gateway to this wonderful world. Used wisely plants can help us get stronger, fend off illness and stay well.

Our Plant Guides service is based at the Sustainable Health Centre in Exeter, England and the information on these pages come from a half-century in practice there and from a range of academic and teaching projects. Click on our picture below for more information about the practice.

If you cannot visit us in Exeter check out all our other resources at Plant Medicine @ Home

Sustainable Health Centre

Our work here starts with an initial in-person consultation. This is by far the best way to work out a plan and your unique blend of herbal medicines to put your health back on track. To get access to our Practice Calendar please use our Contact Form. Note we are currently prioritising those who have been waiting longest so there may be a delay before we get back to you.  If you cannot reach Exeter we do have Zoom consultation opportunities. Note however that various legal and customs barriers mean we cannot provide our herbal medicines outside the UK. International Zoom consultations may be possible with approved local sources of remedies.

UPDATE: there have been a flood of enquiries for consultations with Simon since Diary of a CEO was aired. We are taking new patients from late-2026. If you are able to wait you are still very welcome!

Whoever you are – help yourself!

This site is an independent information resource created by Simon Mills with the support of other leaders in this field. It aims to help you make the most informed self care choices for yourself and family. We have no commercial sponsorship.

Disclaimer.

Each person and illness is unique and, unlike a personal health consultation, no publication can anticipate every circumstance or be appropriate for every reader. Knowledge and best practice in the health field are also constantly changing. The information in Plant Guides and the links to other sites is selected for its suitability for self care reflecting the best evidence available. However it can never replace a personal diagnosis nor substitute for a prescription. Many apparently unremarkable symptoms may disguise something more serious. If a problem has been longstanding or is otherwise inexplicable or alarming, it is important to consult professional health advisors or registered medical practitioners who are better able to spot problems that need further treatment.

In obtaining herbal products, users should not assume that all products are of good quality and should read the label carefully for detailed information about safe use, and should choose responsible manufacturers with independently assured quality standards and safety monitoring procedures. The herbs chosen in Plant Guides have good safety profiles and  the best available advice is that they should generate no significant adverse effects if of good quality. However idiosyncratic reactions can occur to almost any consumed substance and although very rare can never be ruled out. Even these are most unlikely to have lasting effects if advice on this site is observed and the remedy stopped immediately.

The information provided in Plant Guides is not a direction to any individual treatment or herbal product, and to the fullest extent of the law, neither the publisher nor the authors, contributors or editors, assume any liability for any injury and/or damage to persons or property as a matter of products liability, negligence or otherwise, or from any use or operation of any methods, products, instructions or ideas contained in the materials.
